A routine hospital visit for the birth of her daughter quickly turned into a frightening experience for Reazjhana Williams and her family in Denver. What was meant to be a joyful moment suddenly became an emergency when doctors could not detect the baby’s heartbeat, forcing them to perform an urgent C-section.
Within minutes, Reazjhana was rushed into surgery. After the birth, instead of holding her newborn right away, the baby was immediately taken away for medical care. When the parents finally saw their daughter, Kyanni, they were shocked to discover a large wound on one side of her face.
Doctors explained that during the emergency C-section, the baby’s head had been positioned very close to the placenta wall, which led to the injury. The wound was severe and required 13 stitches, and Kyanni was quickly treated by a plastic surgeon.
The hospital later said that such injuries can occur as rare complications during emergency C-sections and stated that patient safety is their top priority. While the family continues to process the traumatic experience, community members have shown support by raising over $11,000 through a GoFundMe to help with medical expenses as Kyanni recovers.
