Mom’s update after using dead son’s sperm to have baby via surrogate

Spanish actress Ana Obregón made headlines in 2023 after revealing that she had a baby via surrogate using her late son Aless Lequio’s preserved sperm.

Aless passed away from cancer at age 27 in 2020, but before his death, he had expressed a desire to become a father. Ana fulfilled his wish by welcoming a baby girl named Anita in the U.S. a year later. Ana clarified that Anita is not her daughter, but her granddaughter.

“She is Aless’ daughter,” Ana said. “When she grows up, I’ll tell her her father was a hero.”

Now 70, Ana raises Anita while coping with the grief of losing her only son. She admitted parenting is physically challenging at her age, but Anita has brought joy back into her life after years of mourning.

Though surrogacy is illegal in Spain, Ana adopted Anita and became her legal guardian. She has openly shared that the pain of losing a child never goes away — but Anita has given her a reason to live again.
